90 Year Old Man Pleads for Help from Elected Officials
On May 3, 2013, the advocate for the Farm Road property owners was presented with an award from the Maryland General Assembly, and a second award from the Montgomery County Executive, for his efforts to help the Farm Road families. All of the families were invited to tell the legislators their advocate needed help fighting one of the most powerful entities in the region. Robert Awkard was not able to attend - after years of stress from not being able to make productive use of his property, he was dressed and ready to travel 10 miles to speak out. Unfortunately, he was too weak to travel, but still wanted the officials to hear from him. His message was recorded and played for the audience. Two elected officials, Councilmember Marc Elrich and County Executive Ike Leggett, had the courage to join with the advocate and speak out against one of the most powerful entities in the region.
